Reasons 2018 Excuses Rhone Style Blend
Tasting Notes:
Dark ruby in color with deep red hues. Dark fruit dominate the nose, primarily with black cherry and blackberry notes. Some vanilla, mocha, coffee, tobacco, leather, black pepper, nutmeg, bacon and baking spice highlight the toasty oak on the nose. In the mouth, the dark fruit is supported by velvety tannins and medium-plus acidity. It is rich, balanced, and structured, but the full-bodied tannins are smooth. The dark fruit carries through, and is joined by pie crust, graham cracker, and savory spices. The wine leaves with black cherry cola and mocha notes on the long, generous finish.
About Rhône Blends :
Rhône Style blends are wines made from grapes typical of the Rhône region of France, the main ones being Syrah, Grenache, Marsanne, Roussanne, and Viognier. The Rhône wine region starts just south of Lyon (~250 miles southeast of Paris) and continues down to the Mediterranean sea. If you've looked into Rhône style wines, you might have seen 'GSM' as shorthand for Grenache, Syrah, and Mouvedre. This is a common blend in southern Rhône with Grenache dominating. Our blend is mostly Syrah which is typical of Northern Rhône reds: bold and spicy with firm tannins. We add Grenache to enhance the mid-palate structure. The wine growing region of Washington state sits on the same line of latitude as the growing regions in France. so Rhône style blends out of Washington are superb.
